Here are some of the new initiatives happening around the world in hope to help the climate crisis. Germany Making the Film Industry More Sustainable The film industry has a large environmental footprint as they fly around the world to shoot at different locations or just the fact that they are using diesel generators all day to provide the set lights. That's why "Green Shooting" has been created, a working group that has reached an agreement to set a uniform minimum ecological standards for film, TV and video-on-demand productions. Their strategies involve switching to green electricity and electric vehicles and by using rechargeable batteries. Tobias Wolf, from the production company Bavaria Fiction, told DW that "Being open to green film production is not a question of generations. We all have to pull together to counteract climate change." If you know any filmmakers, send this article to them and see if they can implement some of these changes at their company. ByFusion Uses Recycled Plastic Waste To Replace Concrete ByFusion has created the first construction-grade building material, ByBlocks, made by using only recycled and unrecyclable plastic waste. This new building method using waste instead of concrete, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 41%! ByFusion has 0 waste, as any construction residual can be used for more ByBlocks. Byfusions creates ByBlocks by collecting discarded plastic waste, shredding the plastic and then this plastic superheated so it can be moulded into ByBlocks. Their goal is recycle 100 million tons of plastic waste by 2030. You may be thinking that ByBlocks could leave more microplastics in our environment, however every ByBlock is sent with a collection bag for debris during construction. Preventing any more microplastics to be discarded on our earth. On top of this they collect plastic debris from oceans and create furniture pieces. It's sometimes overwhelming to know how you can personally make a difference and some people feel the problem is too big for them to make an impact and therefore ignore their personal footprint. If you are wanting to make small and easy changes in your life to make an impact here are some of the tips. Read this article to find out all the tips and how this will make a change! Their first tip is to reduce food waste, in the US the carbon footprint of food waste is larger than the airline industry. It's not always in your control, however 37% of food waste happens at home, therefore by reducing your food waste it will save you money and help the planet at the same time. Other tips include protecting our forests by joining local organisations which promote tree-planting and forest conservation. Or by switching in your old car for an electric one, this is not feasible for all, so the next best thing is hybrid-vehicles or switching to public transport.
